This is my Eleven Month Eve post.

I am enjoying the rest of this ride. I am not going to ask again, “Are we there yet?”

Ancient Chinese Secret

Ancient

How many of you remember this commercial?

I just used this line the other day at work. I guess some people may be offended by this commercial and the Jello commercial below. I am not.

Perhaps if commercials like these were to air today, I might be offended. Looking back at pop culture through advertising speaks volumes to the attitudes of that time. I wonder what we say and do today that will be consider offensive or non PC in the furture.

To My Secret Pal

Dear Secret Pal,

Thank you for your recent special delievery. I love the angel prayer keeper. You are very thoughtful. I want to send you out a note to let you know I think of you often. I have no clue (yet) who you are but I am having fun trying to figure it out. I hope that we will be able to meet some day. It seems we both love to travel so distance will not be an issue.  I really hope our daughters will have an opportunity to know each other.  Mabybe we will even be in China together.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness! It really means a lot to me.

I will stay in touch with you though my blog, now that I have a computer again.

I Did It!

Yes, I actually finished a project!   It’s an open ended project, so technically Phase One is finished.

I created a scrapbook of my adoption journey so far. It includes:

  • a journal beginning with my decision to adopt up to the wait begins,
  • a timeline
  • all my adoption docs, from application to LID letter
  • pictures and explanations of the CCAA departments

Scrapbooking is new to me and I wasn’t sure I would like doing it. It was fun I am glad I made one, however the next phases will be digital. I prefer the computer. I felt very limited doing the first phase and all the papers and embellishments were expensive.

I am working on the following topics for the next phase of my digital scrapbook:

  • The Wait…
  • Chinese Families, culture, celebrations, holidays, etc.
  • Our family culture, celebrations, holidays, etc.
  • China One Child Policy

I have also started Hazel’s Lifebook and a book titled A Forever Daughter for Elizabeth, A Forever Mommy for Hazel.

As a child I was very fascinated with my parents’ life before me. I loved going through all the old boxes in the attic filled with tidbits of their past lives. The tidbits of stuff were disjointed and fragments of information. I was always hungry for more. I asked lots of questions, repeatedly, trying to put the fragments together in my mind like an old family quilt. I wish I had their story down on paper. I have forgotten many of the details. Both my parents have passed on and I can’t ask them questions anymore. That old family quilt is tattered by time and fading away.

The goal of my book is to provide Hazel with a tangible and visual story that is her family quilt.

I am great at execution; it’s the finishing that does me in.

Have you started a scrapbook or Lifebook? I would love to hear about the topics in yours!

Tag You’re It!

I’ve been tagged by Cindy!

Now I tag you, yes you, my fellow lurker.

I only personally know two other people in blogland. Cindy who tagged me and she tagged KelliAnn.

I am a blogger lurker. I am not sure how they would feel if a lurker tagged them. I also know I have a few lurkers. So, if you are one of my lurkers (Thanks for lurking I am honored) this is an invitation to post 6 weird things about you on your blog.  Please see the rules below.

Six weird things about me…

OK this is hard, because if this is about me I don’t know it’s weird, it’s my normal, which only other people might think is weird.

So here is what I think might be considered weird. (I actually came up with 7)

  1. My belly button is pierced. I did it when I turned 40; I really wanted a tattoo but couldn’t figure out what I wanted.
  2. When I buy small appliances I save the boxes and stuffing. Just in case I have to return it. Eventually I throw it out, usually when I have to throw out the appliance.
  3. I have to sleep with a fan blowing on me, winter, spring summer and fall. I need the white noise and the air movement.
  4. I rearrange my furniture all the time, at least once a month. If I go into someone else’s house and the flow of the furniture is not right, I freely share with them my amateur opinion of Feng Shui.
  5. When I talk on the phone at work (especially conference calls), I trim my spilt ends. I firmly believe in multi tasking!
  6. I have 7 pairs of prescription glasses.  Because I have been wearing glasses since I was 6, I have come to see (no pun intended) glasses as part of my wardrobe. Would you wear the same article of clothing everyday? I think not, that’s exactly why I have 7 pairs.

For the finale, even I think this is weird. I have never been able to explain it; I have felt this way since I as a child. I debated typing this because thinking about it freaks me out.

7. I hate the bottom of boats, my skin crawls just typing the words. Toy boats, canoes, motor boats, ships, you name it, I hate it. I can’t look at them; it doesn’t matter if it’s just a picture on TV or in a movie or driving down the road and someone is towing a boat. It freaks me out! I have to turn away. The butt chills and creepy crawlies last for several minutes. (I think it’s a former life thing)

I have to go now and get over my hebbie jebbies.

I tag you, my fellow lurker!

The Rules: (yes, this is my blog so I can change the rules)

Each player of this game/tag gives 6 weird facts about themselves. People that are tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state the rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment on on my page with your blog so I can read your 6 weird things.
